Mileage: 0 miles
It's not often that you will see a zero next to my daily mileage, however, today I am taking a complete rest as part of my half marathon taper. I find taking a day off running bloody hard, as I hate not been able to pull on my trainers and dashing out the door for a run. I miss that amazing post run feeling and glow. I become moody and annoying. I feel fat after every mouthful I eat. Every twinge in my leg will feel like a major injury and by the end of the day I'll be convinced that I can't run a mile in less than 15 minutes! I hate rest days! I hate tapering! However, I am convinced they help, so I endure them. Yes, you're probably right, I am slightly obsessed.
I also hate having to drive to work. It's so bloody slow. It takes me 25-28 minutes to run to work, depending on traffic lights. To drive to work it can take up to an hour!! Unbelievable. For those of you shouting at me to get the bus, I tried that and it took over an hour and I had to get two of them! Very annoying and frustrating, as well as costly. Running is clearly the best way to commute!!
Well today, on the 13th (13 is my lucky number!!), we have finally launched the website!! I hope that you all think it looks great and has loads of useful information about my MDS challenge and the superb charity that I am doing it for. I hope you feel moved to take part in the different fundraising activities that I will be organising over the next year. The Ceilidh is the first one, please buy a ticket and come along. I'm also hoping to organise a dinner event with a high profile speaker, a rubber duck race in Stockbridge, a charity auction, raffles, cake sales and many other activities. Rather than just ask you to sponsor me or donate I would rather make sure you get something for your money, even if its just the chance to win a prize. Having said that, if you do just want to sponsor me or donate - then feel free. I won't hold you back!!
I also hope that you find my blog interesting and worth a read once in a while. I am going to update it daily, not only to let you all know what I am doing, but for me too, so hopefully one day I can look back and remember how it was all done. I also promise that it won't always be just running. I'll add other thoughts, feelings and observations on life in general as well. I also plan to include some interviews with runners, ultra marathon runners, nutritionists, adventurers and other people, so it won't always be just me!
Finally I need to thank a few people, whose help has made this possible (sounds like an Oscar speech, but sorry needs to be done!).
Firstly, Dan Clarkson built this website for me and I am extremely grateful. When Dan volunteered to help me I am not sure he realised what he was letting himself in for, as it has taken close to 6 weeks of hard work to get the site as it is now. Dan has spent so much of his own time on this site that I am sure if he were to send me a bill I would need to triple my fundraising efforts. Thank you, Dan the site looks brilliant.
Secondly, Gail, Stephen and Jack. Without them dealing with my obsession, feeding me, washing my smelly running kit, doing most of my household chores, putting up with far more than a girlfriend, brother and dog should have to, as well as giving me unending support I would not be able to take on this challenge. I am saying this now, as my above mentioned flaws are probably about to get ten times worse. I know I can rely on them, I just hope I don't take them for granted (too much!).
Anyway, hope to see you on here a lot and I look forward to your support. Feel free to email me at richard.meade@running-hot.co.uk
